Suspenders

Suspenders (also known as braces in British English) are straps worn over the shoulders to hold up trousers. They typically attach to the pants with buttons or clips.

Main Features:

  • Material: Usually made from elastic or fabric with some leather or metal parts.

  • Attachment Type:

    • Button suspenders (as shown in the image): Use leather loops that fasten to buttons on the inside or outside of the waistband.

    • Clip-on suspenders: Use metal clips that grip the waistband.

  • Shape: Most commonly in an "X" or "Y" shape at the back.

Purpose:

  • Keeps trousers in place without the need for a belt.

  • Often used in formal wear (with suits, tuxedos), but also has vintage and casual fashion appeal.
